No, dammit. Gas bladders are what fish use to adjust their vertical place in the water column. If you prevented it, they couldn't float around the way they do. Efforts should be made to prevent gas bladder disorders, however. Causes range from netting injuries to genetic predispositions and even poor water conditions or constipation.

To the OP: make sure there is no ammonia, nitrites or other toxins in his water. Check the pH and make sure it is not fluctuating after your water changes. Turn off the tank light and give him some floating plants to rest in if he seems scared. Anything else you can tell us?

Nothing personal, but why do you jump to conclusion like this in most (if not all) of your responses when you probably don't know much about the person and/or his/her knowledge...

:chillpill: Figured a sarcastic response was needed for the sarcastic reply left. So you obviously don't know how to recognize or take a joke;)

Apparently I missed the intended sarcasm. But didn't really expect that coming from you - just the impression that I get from your responses that's all :)

Unfortunately he passed away the next day, but the supplyer ended up cutting me a break by selling me another one that was 4.5 inch for $15. Thanks all the suggestions and help though!

He should have said Sidewinder, not flounder. although, he could be a flounder that doesn't know which end is up...or down in this instance.
