Laying down a cloud of calcium paste over the impacted area and then using a syphon tube to pull them off will sometimes work. Also gives you a water change. :D

Propane torch

Efficient? No.

Good for other live on your LR? No.

Effective? Overall probably not.

Kinda badass as far as fish keeping is concerned? Yes.

Efficiency is really dependent on the number of rocks you need to clean. It will totally wipe the aiptasia out, and it wont return. As far as the other life on the rock; it will all be fine. The bacteria live all throughout the rocks and not just on the surface. Any bacteria killed by the torch will grow back very quickly. The flame is only ever on the anemones and then just for a few seconds. It wont hurt any worms or pods in the rocks. I have done this several times when the more common remedies failed to work.

I just wouldnt do it.

Unless you thouroughly torched the whole thing for a couple seconds there is no way you could get all of them. Even then, being familiar with the things, I wouldnt bet against a comeback. Of everything that is on your live rock, they are probably the most durable.

I wouldnt put a torch to my rock unless there was nothing I liked growing on it. My rock is covered with macros, worms, and other little plants and animals. I wouldnt use this method unless I needed to, and thought that I actually could eradicate EVERYTHING-with 100% certainty.
