HELP !!!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
yeah naturally it would attack an oscar or any other fish tossed in there because they're terroritorial. i'd consider that more a natural reaction then a sign of being aggressive.

how big is it? if it's too big for bloodworm i wouldn't bother. a feeder here and there is fine IMO, just quarantine first. if it were me, i'd check the water params like JP asked earlier, make sure everything tests out right, give it a couple of feeders and then start the process of fasting it onto talipia, smelts, pellets etc etc.

O.K I may try a feeder and while its in QT I will keep on trying to feed. How long would you QT for BTW. He is a good size in the 5-6" range so not sure how useful a bloodworm cube may be. I also did a 20% WC last night, and a new water test kit is on the way through amazon ran out of testing stuff a couple days ago so ill post that when it gets here hopefully soon.

most people suggest atleast 2 weeks but doesnt sound like you can wait that long. personally i'd do 2-3 days in this scenario.

he sounds too big for a bloodworm cube but i guess it wouldn't be a huge deal if you were to do a gravel vac immediately afterward

is it still acting docile?

Yeah he is still being skittish, I have been using room lights to light tank instead of the aquarium light. He seems to hate the aquarium light. I wiil try a bloodworm cube and at worst have to clean it up afterwards. I will try to pick some healthy looking feeders up either today or tommorow.

at 5-6" don't even bother with blood worm cubes. they can go a long time without feeding as long as its not already super skinny. cut a shrimp or fish fillet to small bite size, drop it in the tank and leave the room and go back after 15-30 minutes, if it doesn't eat it then wait few more days and try again. when I first got the rhom I have right now it didn't eat anything for almost 3 weeks, then it would only eat when I wasn't there and now it hits the food the moment it hit the water so give it time and it'll come around.

Yeah kinda hoping that isn't what it comes to but as long as i know it wont starve itself it makes me feel better. I may try dipping the shrimp in some garlic to see if that entices him to eat, and I will be able to definativaly rule out my water soon, as my test kit may be here as early as tommorow.

Still no dice on feeding him I did pick up some Garlic after work today so maybe i will get some luck. My test kit finally arrived today and the results are
Nitrites: 0
Ammonia: 0
Nitrates: 40-80ppm couldn't tell by looking colors were basically the same
Ph: 6.0
I cannont understand the PH reading being so low as my tap water comes out at about a PH of 8.0 either way i performed a 20% WC to correct the nitrates which were a little high and the PH which was confusingly low. Would any of these reading seriously screw with the fish?

i won't worry too much about the pH if it's stable, but ideally would keep the nitrate at around 20ppm or lower.
