Hello everyone, I am wanting to start an african cichlid tank it is going to be a 55gallon. And im not exactly what kind of africans to put in it, I do know that i want lots of color. If anyone could give me any advice it would be much appreciated!!!

you want colour, matched aggression and under 6"

I would start off with a visit to your LFs. See what you like or look through cichlid forum pics or tanks. See what you like and go from there.
Yellow labs are always a good choice. Easy to breed, tolerant of other fish and can hold their own.
Peacocks are good too! Many different kinds and colours.
Maybe some Lake Victorian Fish (SP 44) They look amazing and come in the craziest colours! :)

Best of luck! Make sure u dont mix food habits. If they are carn. dont mix with herb. You will only creat problems for your self.

as always Id suggest peacocks very nice colors =) but mbuna can only be kept with mbuna but there are many kinds you can get and they are pretty colorfull.

A group of yellow labs+ a group of demasoni is a striking and popular combo
salousi are a favorite of mine
All the afras stay pretty small and have wild colors:headbang2
I really like the trewavase very different looking but a little on the big side for 55g
Super red top kimpuma are real attention getters

I may have to agree, concidering it is only a 55g, for the peacocks, it may be too small. You may not be able to get as many in the tank than if if you went with mbuna.

I enjoy being right... but really I think you will enjoy a mbuna tank... you can stock more and really do some fun things... they love rock and most can breed together so you can post whose the daddy posts... which keep us all on our toes....
