I would try the zucchini and he either does not eat it or he does eat it and is still sick I would think it would be some sort of parasite

Protein rich foods wreak havoc on the intestines of panaque species. It can kill off the bacteria needed for the digestion of proper foods. do you have any driftwood in your tank? If so I would rubberband zuc to it. The 2 things your panaque needs is veggies and wood in his diet right now.hope he makes it
One of the mods from the long gone plecofanatics forum both told me that info and taught me that trick when I brought in a sickly 190 being fed carnivore pellets at my lfs. He said once the bacteria was killed off the fish could no longer properly process the wood they need. I'm not claiming it to be 100% fact. But having seen seen the intestinal tract of a panaque in person I could believe it. Miles and miles of intestines. Sadly I don't remember his name...
It's my understanding from the most recent research in to the intestinal tracts of Panaque, that gastro-intestinal bacteria does not play a role in the breaking down wood (to use as a food in it's own right). The wood they consume is more like a medium that contains the food they're really after. Their GI tracts, although long, are clear with no places to slow down or retain 'food' for bacterial breakdown, and the transit through the GI tract is too rapid for bacterial breakdown to take affect.

Interesting...it was around 2006 or so when I heard this information. It made sense at the time, so I just always went with it. I understood the whole part about them not actually eating the wood, more of them eating the food the wood contains. But I always understood it that the bacteria broke down the wood so they could digest the actual food contained in the wood. I will read that article for sure. Thanks for the info!
