Why is it every time I turn off the light for a while then I turn the lights on he looks like this?? Then after 20 min he clears up and looks nice why is that???

Mine does that too when it's dark. He loses all his colors and eyes turn white. Maybe sleeping colors?

Stressed out. Shouldn't turn lights on and off on them. Get a timer and run the lights on a schedule. Get a background or paint the back of the tank too. It will look better imo.

Ya I did some research and I learn when the light go out they change do to their surrounding. Now that a relief.. this how he looks when the lights on..

I don't know the details but I think it's stress. When you say the lights are off, do you mean all the lights in that room are all turned off(complete darkness)? It's like you sleeping then suddenly someone wakes you up with a flashlight on your face, stressful right?

True.. Thank I'm new to FL I just got this guy last week Thursday. So do you think a dark blue will be ok cause I heard dark back rounds and dark gravel can also stress a FL??

Hmmm, well I just did a quick research because I don't have flowerhorns(FH). The dark backgrounds and dark gravel doesn't necessarily stress the fish but it affects their color negatively. So you heard right, you could still go with a dark blue background but you would have to balance it with bright gravel(white or neutral[natural color]). What do you have in your tank right now for substrate/gravel?
