I have two peacock bass coming in 3 days and my ph level is 8.5. Are they gonna die when I put them in there or what can I do to get this down in a hurry. My tank has been running and filtering for a week now.

This. Drip acclimate for a couple of hours.

I worry more about the fact of your tank not being ready...have you used cycled media and old water?

I wouldn't worry about the ph. I would worry about cycling your tank properly first. Go to the set up and filtration section and look up the nitrogen cycle. Better now than when your fish die of ammonia poisoning. Good luck man.

Well since they alteady are coming you must try a quicker approach.


Do you have a lfs or a friend that can gve you ussed, cycled, filtermedia? Substitute your media with that and you are one step ahead. Do it today or tomorrow.....

As to ph, you do not need to put the peat in the filter. You need the space for media.

Put it in a mesh bag and dump it into the tank....

Thanks for everyone's help I'm gonna drip acclimate and check out a aqua shop in the city tomorrow. If anyone has any more suggestions let me know hopefully Ill have so healthy photos next week to share.

One more question, while these fish are drip acclimating should I feed them in the bucket? Keep in mind they have been shipped to me from Indiana to New York. Or should I just wait until there in the tank? As far as cycling goes should I go buy some feeders now and let them loose to help cycle the tank? Also the decor in my tank came from a previous tank so that should help too right? I tested ammonia and it was perfect though nothing's been in there to create waste.

Wait. You don't want to foul up the water in the bucket. Try feeding them in the tank but odds are they won't eat for a day or two.
