Help!?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Sounds like a ph problem... could be due to bio load

Maybe you can add more media and a bag of coral chips to buffer the PH
Thanks for the input.. All my other tanks have driftwood in them, which likely helps buffer the ph. In this tank I keep it pretty simple to give room for the inhabitants to move. (and the bass are a little nuts) :)

I have LOTS of biological media in the system. Approx 3.5-4kgs of a decent ceramic ring. I will look into the coral chips, and/or other things that will help level out the ph for me.

I have 2 dwarf Motoro stinrgrays (1 male and 1 female) they are not eating, not moving alot. Male is worse than the female. Water test results.
Ammonia = 0.0
Nitrite = 0.0
Ph = 6.6
Nitrate = 30ppm
Temps are held steady at 78-79degrees
180 gallon tank. with 1 Asian Arowana, and 3 kelberi bass.

The rays are not damaged at all.. I do 30% water changes weekly. And for the past wekk I have done 3 extra water changes for a total of 4.. to be on the safe side.

Food has not changed.. I feed that tank shrimp and tilapia.
All inhabitants have been together for 4 months minimum (the aro and rays, have been together for 6 months)
Arowana is 12", bass are 9" , rays are 6-8"

I am at a loss!?!?!?!?!? Female is slightly more active then that male. Neither has eaten for about 1 week.

I am a LONG time fresh water fish keeper, but these are my first rays.

***UPDATE*** water tests after 50% water change this morning:
Ammonia = 0.0
Nitrites = 0.0
Nitrates = <10ppm
ph = about 6.8-7.0
temp steady at 78-79F (held there by an external temp controller)

I'll try feeding them again this evening.
Wish me luck!! :stingray: :shakehead

If I am not wrong, driftwood lowers PH if it leeches tannins. Even if it does not leech tannins, I don't think it buffers PH.

The rays heads are sunken in! They look super thin I would prazi the tank and see if they respond after 24hrs by eating if there is a positive improvement I would treat for 5 days large water change rest for 2 days then next day restart treatment again for a total of three treatments (three weeks). Prazi is very safe and worth a try. Good luck
