My bala shark is unhappy and not with his own kind
I didn’t do research on this fish
He needs more room and more of his kind

Welcome to the forum!
What size tank is he in? I am guilty of keeping one in a 55 with no others, I’m sure many of us are.
If you are worried, you can rehome to the lfs or another keeper.
They are a tough fish, and if you get more he will certainly be happier. Unless you have room for a massive tank, there isn’t much you can do there.

He is in a 55 gallon with 2 angel fish, 5 cories, 6 tetras and a gourami
They used to be in a 70 gallon hex, but I thought he’d be happier with more horizontal space, so we changed over
It doesn’t seem to have helped
He’s easily spooked and hangs out near the filter. Doesn’t make use of the rest of the tank
I feel like he is not happy but I don’t know where I can rehome him. Don’t want to take him to lfs

If there are any fish keepers by you with larger tanks, they may be able to take it.
This species is naturally spooked very easily, which contributes to their demise in aquariums more than their size.

You could post a for sale ad here and see if anyone by you can take it.

Welcome to MonsterFishKeepers!
I would recommend either rehoming the bala shark (for which you have been given a good suggestion by Deadeye on how to do), or getting a tank at least 3.5 meters in length.
You are going to need that large of a tank if you want to keep it, because not only does it need the company of other bala sharks (like stated before by Deadeye), they are very skittish and need much more space for their size than other fish do so that they have room to make skittishdarts that would cause them to crash and die in a smaller tank.
