Mine will eat nightcrawlers and other bugs. They have become trained like yours and will join the fish and recognise me. Its pretty cool and hopefully you will have a few more this season.

I am not completely sure on the breathing cycle of them when they are hibernating.

oh, i'll be sure to get some bullfrog tadpoles this spring but i just want to provide the proper habitat... i could have gotten more last time, i didn't think my small pond would have provided enough food for a bullfrog. they come from the lakes with endless bugs and especially dragon flies. i have only a few dragon flies.
thanx

First, thats not a small pond.

Second, it will provide them w/enough natural food items, but you can give them a hand w/ roseys and worms. There will probally be more dragonflies this year. Not frog food, but they eat 1-2000 mosquitos a day helping you stay outside longer to enjoy the pond. I had some neon green and blue ones last year that were awesome looking. There was a giant black one, maybe 4-5" wingspan that sounded like a Hummingbird flying around the pond. They are very cool insects....

I don't know about turtles but I do know that Frogs and other anphibians are considered cold blooded so once the temp gets low enough they usually burrow in mud in the bottom of steams or ponds and they don't have to breath during this time, but they have to have a place to hide or if maybe late in the fall or early in the spring they will get swept up in what ever current there is and that is probably how he ended up in your skimmer.
