Any good dithers besides the rainbows I have in there? I'm not looking to add more fish; I can switch them out I think. I've thought about tinfoils (redtails which grow smaller; barbus altus) but I have a feeling the GT will ignore them too. Ideas?

What about a couple more dats? No sense adding fish you may not really like, but that may be enough to dispurse the aggression.

My concerns with that are: the silver dat I have is already 4 1/2" long, and a couple more that are big enough to hold their own will most likely be expensive, since I would have to mail-order them. Also, even with a 75gallon tank (this summer) I would be looking at being overstocked, and in the farther future, I would need a really huge tank for those dats.

Would a couple smaller dats (2-3") be okay with the larger one, and or the GT?

I use roclkwork caves and fake plants and driftwood as screens for my african cichlids. I try to place the cave openings so that one cave does not face directly into the other caves and have fake plants inbetween to avoid line of sight issues (out of sight out of mind). I also try to have a couple more "hideouts" than i have fish when possiable. With african cichlids we use overstocking as a technique to combat aggressive fish. We get many more fish in the tank than we would ever have as a new world cichlid tank. We do this by over filtration and extra waterchanges as part of maintenence. The added fish act as dither fish, its hard to continue to heap aggression on one fish if everytime he leaves his area to chase his target his neighbor tries to take his territory or check out his digs LOL. I dont know if this would work for you , but would be interested to hear opinions from other members since i am familiar with the GT but not the datoid, i dont even know what they look like LOL.

Yeah, they would be ok with a larger dat. I have an NGT that is about 6" in with some ITs that are just over 2" and they are fine. I have more aggression between my little Indos than any of my other dats.

True, the dats would need a large tank in the long run, but with the growth rate on these guys...you have a while before they truely outgrow a 48" x 18" foot print.

If you can get dats from a distributer on MFK, find some people to do a group order and you won't end up paying that much on shipping and you won't pay anywhere near retail prices.
