Okay I recieved a broken tank for free. I have remove the plastic trim around that was already broken the previous owner showed me where it leak. The glass was also broken when I removed the trim. Okay first off the trim on the bottom will be impossibel to take the plastic off. One because the plastic is heavly silcone down. Solution patch the glass with a 1/4 inch 13x 12 tempered glass that I already have. The tank glass is also a 1/4 inch thick and it is a 90 gallon tank. It is a aquarium not a terriuam it made by aqua something the rest was faded away. Its a old tank. I need you to guide me on this repair and comment on the numbered steps..

1.PATCH THE GLASS WITH 1/4 INCH TEMPERED GLASS
2.ADD GLASS eurobracing
 
I would not patch it like that. You need to remove the broken piece, go to a glazier, get an appropriate piece made, and silicone it in.

That patch will leak. If not immediately, likely when you're out of the house (Murpheys Law).

I wouldn't trust that tank with that patch. Either get a new pane of glass or cut all the glass down and make it into a smaller tank.
 
Hello; I have done similar patches although on smaller tanks. Some have held well for many years. I wound up putting a glass pane on both sides of the cracked panel, inside and out. The patch may be ugly but it could be set so it is the back of the tank. I essentially smeared silicone under all of the patch pane and flattened it outto help it become secure.
The crack being on the top should help.
As far as trusting such a repair, that is a good question. I would set such a repaired tank in a place where a leak does not hurt and use it there for a time. Some have held for a long time while others would spring leaks fairly often and were eventually abandoned. Good luck. At least the pirce was right.
