Doesn't sound like it's done yet. Add a powerhead for current. Keep the water clean.

Why are you adding the peroxide to the water? Would stop adding the peroxide unless it's treating something specific.

Add some salt (non iodized) to the tank 1 tsp per gallon.

What was the value of ur ammonia initially? Not sure what ur definition of ideal is.

When it stops eating, losing weight, acting lethargic/not responding and starts getting wounds etc. There is a process. Can't tell if it's from just bad water or what's been added to the tank that the fish is like this.

Don't have powerhead. Ammonia was in "ideal " range initially. It's the nitrates that were insane. I forgot salt. Threw the last of it in there without measuring since I thought he was almost gone. My heart leapt as he got up and swam around but then he went back to his position. We've had him 12 or 14 years and he was grown when given to me so was researching litres to gallons for clove oil. . & does the "anbesol" in the cabinet have enough "eugenol"? And that useless vanilla that I tried to make myself has enough vodka to do the trick . . . Got to prepare for home health workers before I can continue. . .

Thought to anaesthesize him prior to the bash since I think some fish will wake up from a freeze only to suffocate in a garbage container. He is resting against his nest partially up and gasping.
 
Think I have 6 posts now so will try to learn as HHW is late but we have to go to dr & I have to rx & feed hubby so please bear with me if untimely.
 
I would keep doing water changes. Sounds like this tank went through what is called old tank syndrome. Basically, it means the cycle has crashed. So the good bacteria has to re establish.

The best thing you can do is do not feed. He can go weeks without eating unless he is already very thin. I would highly suggest a large water change like in the range of 80% or more. the max you can do. Make sure to use a good conditioner like prime to treat the tank. A little aquarium salt and you should be good. Keep doing daily water changed after that (around 50% or more) and see if that doesn't help.

I would give it a few days at most before putting him down.

Stop beating yourself up and try and do everything you can to keep that water in tip top shape. Also, don't run the lights more than 6 hours a day or so. or maybe not at all if the room is lit. let him relax.

Adding an air stone couldn't hurt either. drop temps a bit is not a bad idea either.
