They arent washed out. :shakehead :screwy:

If a fish never had red in its scales, you cant magicaly create them by feeding shrimp.
I feed them Shrimp, beefheart, cichlid pellets that claim they help color. and a lot of other food.

Ever heard of a comon Oscar?? They have hardly any red at all.

Not to mention they change colors according to mood. They dont look the same all the time.

they look like red tiger oscars to me. natural oscars are a black/green colour which yours are not. if you had real natural oscars they'd be worth a small fortune. believe me when i say that if you feed yours foods rich in red colour theyd brighten up. dont be offended by my advice it was only meant as a tip for you, ive been breeding oscars for years and im certainly not a novice.
this is how that oscar should look.

the only other reason i can think that they dont have very good colouration is that they are runts of the litter probably missing the cull

just my opinion, but i think the more natural/less red oscars look better than the black and red. I still love my red oscar, Rayne, but the yellow belly and green sides on Groucho rock. :headbang2 :headbang2 :headbang2 :headbang2

orbicularis thats the other name. i mentioned this in another oscar post 10 mins ago. im pretty sure it refers to the eye spot only

weather they have red on them or not, they are still very nice fish, hope my little tiger (2 inches) grows up nice and big and bossy. lol
