Fall River Ma.
it made me look like a liar as i expected!!!! but to the naked eye it is black..... i took a couple of the pics with no flash to give a better idea of how it looks in person..... so what do u guys/ladies think????
what type is it??? what is the sex of it?

it's a cool lookin JD.

that right there is what we call a HOOD JACK DEMPSEY....all black Baby!

Looks the same as my female in a breeding dress look, she is also like this when she get angry or scared, feed it well and it will start to grown color like mine did.

you have a regular jack dempsey it turns black when it is stressed or when it gets aggressive, i see other cichlid tank mates in there so that may be the reason she is "black".nothing special about that JD. But still a nice one it looks just like mine when i got her, exactly like it.

:eek:well aparently you dont have an eye for unique qualities in fish...if you look closely you will see many differences beween mine and yours....the first being that mine has no blue markings on its dorsal fn...second the same goes for the lower pectoral type fins....also the tp of my fishes dorsal has a red trim to it...and finaly it has never once changed color in the months i have had it.....does anyone else notice the unique differences??? like i said its hard to capture on the camera....thank you tho

Ya.. i got a black...

its just when they are junv and not fully developed on their colors....

BTW.. its a Female..

Aparently you do not have as much experience with the fish as i do, for i have raised 4 jd from fry to adulthood in my lifetime and what size is your tank and the tank mates? also did you know when cichlids are stressed, scared or mad they turn DARK? I've kept an overstockd tank before and know how different a fish can look in it, I bet that i can turn your fish to look like mine with in a month if you handed her over to me.
