Well I just purchased a 220 gallon tank. I opted for the wider tank that is 72x30.
I am setting it up on Friday and will take some pictures for you all.
I also ordered 150 pounds of black fine sand, a large air pump (with 3 air stones) and will be using 2 300 watt heaters (Should I change this? I have more heaters I can add).
For lighting I am using 10 LED high output lights.
For filtration I am going to run 3 canister filters (378 GPH each) and 1 HOB filter (Says for 100 gallon tank).
Another $1100 bites the dust! This is really turning out to be an expensive hobby!

our advice on a 300 or 400 gallon tank. But wow, those are expensive and a 400 gallon I would;d have to reinforce my floors in my house too! When the sting ray and eels our grow this tank I will sell it and invest in a larger tank though.
Hope they will be happy in this tank for now :-(

You made the right choice going w/ the wider tank.
as for the sand, idk enough about rays to make a diffinitive answer to the question. But I've gotten the gist of less is more w/ sand. for the eels, they'll be content w/ whatever you go with. provided they have hiding spots. PVC pipes and driftwood are my top 2 for my eels. make sure you have 1-2 hiding spots per eel. They will stake out territories like cichlids. Also make sure the sand you ordered is NON-silica. Silica based sands act like tiny razor blades ime.
You may also want to look into some of the indoor pond threads and consider going that route. as to how long it will take the ray to outgrow.. I would think 1 yr would be okay, but i'de wait for some more diffinitive answers. The eels should be fine for the year in a 220.

So I got my new tank and wow is it HUGE, well to me and compaired to my other tanks it is anyways. I will take some pics of it here in a min and post them.
Couple questions for ya though.
What filter would you use on this 220 gallon tank? I am thinking of buying some bad ass filter for this tank, just not sure what one to get. I do have 3 canister filters I am setting up on it that are rated for up to 100 gallons, but I would rather just run one supper efficient bad ass filter, or maybe just 2 filters, one on each side.
Also, how would you clean these filters? each one of my canister filters has 2 white pads, a blue sponge pad, bioballs, activated charcoal, white ammonia eating crystals and some round white pores looking rock things with holes through them.
Also, I was feeding my ray some live blackworms and I knocked the whole damn bucket into the water scattering about 1/8th of a pound of worms all over the water, lots got sucked into the filters and the fish over ate like crazy, would this be a good time to clean the filters in the tank?

Cyber: In the wide shot of your tank in the 3rd picture initially posted, Do I see a couple of Rainbows in the tank? Your Orange Midas looks extremely good now. Good job on the rescue. Keep us posted with more news. I'm subscribing to this one.
