Most of the roots are water lettuce. There is also some water hyacinth and salvinia in there. The lettuce is fairly easy to grow. As long as you have sufficient light it will grow and multiply. You know it is considered a pest in some regions. I use 6 36W tubes for light. You will need at least 10cm between your lights(lid) and the water surface. Water lettuce can grow really big, but I only keep young plants and bin the old ones. If you don't want the roots, but only look to darken your tank, salvinia is a better choice. The water hyacinth is not really an aquarium plant, so I won't talk about it.
