That's not true, H. carpintis is a totally different species than H. cynoguttatus, Carpintis is a related Mexican species, but has nothing to do with the "texas" common name. People should not use common names and this kind of confusion would not happen. That's how unintentional hybrids occur because people confuse two totally different species because the use of common names.

Sorry, I wasn't clear on what I meant. I know it is a different species; when he said "herichthys carpintis texas" I assumed he was talking about H. Carpintis, not a hybrid between a cyano and carpintis.

Ever heard of breeding a Carpinte with a Carpinte? Now that would make a nice looking cichlid.;)

Your questions are best asked in the Hybrid forum.

probably good advice; you don't want an angry mob of pitchfork and torch wielding MFKers coming after you, right? :D

They've also unofficially been dubbed "Escondido"

No, 'Escondido' is another variant of carpintis. They have worm like markings on their face where "regular" carpintis don't.

I have to disagree with that statement. My regular Carpinte has just as much worm like markings as any Escondido i've seen on the net.

I should have been more specific before, escondido come from a specific region (the river escondido) and they all have the worm markings on their face. Most "non-escondido" carpintis won't have those markings. You lucked out having one with worm markings...unless it is from the escondido.:D
