Herichthys cyanoguttatus "Laguna de Santa Tecla" - Male

Someone on this board was inquiring about these guys, so here ya go. I dont think I've ever posted these here before. I originally had twelve, 1/2" juveniles. I ended up with a perfect 50/50 male to female ratio(what are the odds). Over a course of a few months I gave all but one breeding pair to Jeff Rapps. These fish were collected from Laguna de Santa Tecla in the Cuatro Cienegas valley by Rusty Wessel, Ad Konnings, and Juan Miguel Artigas Azas. If you have this race.. Most likely these are the parents or at very least the siblings to the parents of yours. I do Know Jeff stil lhas these and Eddie Martin is also selling these. Enjoy.

and of course.. the Female:

They are guarding a clutch of a couple hundred fry that hatched two days ago. Should be free swimming shortly.

Nice. Thanks for posting these. I had only heard of them once prior and no one else ever mentions them. If I recall, they are more blue/greenish than they appear in this picture.

Carpintis/Cyanos, for me, are one of the most difficult fish to photograph and reflect what they really look like.

The body color is about right in these photos a golden/olive, the spots are bright blue and I cannot capture the blue spotting with the camera to save my life. In full breedig color they are split black and white and the white has a blue hue to it. Very impressive. As far as I know Rusty, Jeff, and myself have the only adult pairs.

WOW, these are absolutely stunning!!! I keep H. Cyannogutatus 'Cuatro Cienegas'. Mine are only small at the moment, if they grow up to be half as nice as yours are, i'll be over the moon!!

What size are yours???? and also what size do you expect them to finally attain??

I seem to recall reading on this forum somewhere, of a race of Cyanno's that only attain 6" or so???? I havnt been able to find the thread since, i was under the impression all Cyanno's grew big!! 10-12".????

The first series of photos in this post I took yesterday afternoon, the second series are a few months to a year old. Same fish though.

The male is around 7" or 8". The female is around 5" to 5-1/2". Pretty slow growing. They seem to put all energy into breeding... and they do ALOT of it!

This pair share an undivided 4' 90gallon tank. They are the only fish in the tank. The pair gets along extremely well. I leave the fry in the tank and they last about 2 months before the male starts picking them off. I do manage to save a few that can hide and dont get eaten, so I have a few juvies swimming around in the other tanks.

That is a really nice looking cyano! Here is a pic of a 10'' female I used to have. I really miss this fish
