I found electric fences at the lfs to surround the pond im gonna pic it up and give that a try.

Is there any safty features on them? Say one day the winds are high and the fence gets knocked into the pond?

Thanks Zenn, I was just going to suggest that...

I've been fighting this same war for years. If you leave some netting on the ground a couple of feet out from the pond thats saved me . They don't seem to like to step on the netting. FYI

As weird as it may sound if you put up a heron decoy, they might not come back. Herons are naturally territorial and if they see another one at a certain location, they'll move on. My neighbor had a problem with a heron trying to eat his gold fish in his small pond. When he put up a decoy, his heron problem stopped.

Need to step up your defenses.

Shoot one and leave it's body there for the others to see.
Usually works with some situations.

So it's going to be the Herons, or your fish...............

1) aren't they protected under migratory bird act?

2) so he is going to have a rotting carcass in his yard?

3) you have fish outdoors...to think that wouldn't attract predators is ridicolous. if you want to keep fish safe keep them in aquariums in a controlled enviornment.

Pay a 10 year old 5 dollars a week to sit in a lawn chair by your pond and tell him that everytime a heron comes up to run up to it and dance around until it flies off.

It has worked for me in the past.
