i saw a trio of the coolest looking heros sp. at an LFS today. they look distinctly different from normal severums, and i went online and the best resemblance looks like this

p00409.jpg

anyone ever seen anything like them before? their eyes were bright red and the spots that went horizontal were a dull red/brown. they had a red chest though... definitely very unique. has anyone kept them before?

i wish i had a camera to take some pictures... my hands are itching to get some... but they were kind of expensive :(

Sounds like either notatus or the new Atabapo species ... the pic ya linked didn't work though.

that atabapo is spot on with what i saw :) the lfs had them labeled as 'heckel's severum'
how are they like to keep? their eyes were crazy red when i saw them and the spots were really bright. i am pretty sure there were 2 males and a female. i think there was a bonded pair in the tank as they had a good 1/3 of the 60 odd gallon tank. there were other green severums inside. is that fish worth $50 now... that's the question ;)

I got one right for once!!! :headbang2

Thanks for the pic Taz, have been wanting to see an adult one for a while, not that I have a tank for them and atabapo fire pikes, but makes for a cool idea. Deffinately one of the prettiest sev's.

haha good one darth pike - you ever kept one?
i am ITCHING to run to the store and pick up that pair i saw... i am sure i can get the romance going in their own tank ;) haha...

some candlelight... a bottle of bubbly... some marvin playin in the background, and a can of worms :D :D

Not yet ... the Atabapo's are realitively new, even more so than the rotkiel's. A pair of them and a pair of the new Atabapo blue acaras would make a great larger midsize tank though. I had been holding off just becuase I had yet to see an adult picture yet, wasn't sure if I'd go them or rot's ... but I really like the colors on Taz's, though obviously those are the breeding colors.
