Hey Festae experts, need some ID help...

I think it is hard to tell at that size.

When I posted the following pic of my old Festae on here, most people said it was a male:

I think it was around 3.5 to 4 inches at the time.


Now here is the same Festae a couple of months later:

So, my point is, don't let sub-adult Festae coloration fool ya

I know what you mean. I've been fooled by Festae too. Dk66gt can I post mine? This is my dominant growout of 3 I kept...I'm thinking and hoping it's a male. You guys already ID'd it as male too not too long ago. We'll see.

Dominant growout usually means male and yours looks like a very nice male balton. It does have a lot of red on him but thats probably just because you've been feeeding him right.

Thanks for all the feedback everyone. I took a couple of pics without the flash this time for you guys to check out. I'll post some updated pics in a couple of weeks also but there is some dark blue/black on the dorsal which made me think it was a female.

The dorsal looks pretty dark in the non-flash pics don't they? Sometimes Festae can be tricky at that size.

Yeah, those pics I post with the flash really didn't show her well, sorry for the confusion guys. Just couldn't get any nice pics until I switched the lights from another tank last night.

In the first pics it looks like a male to me.

The second pics make me wonder as well. Great pick up none the less.

Still Have to say 100% male!The female in my avatar is just over 4" when the pic was taken.And My male had a little black in the dorsal up until 6"
