Welcome to the site!!! Bluegills are great monsters to start out with and a lot of fun, I keep pumpkinseeds myself (very similer, more colorful but smaller).
 
Some people say monsters have to be large, I think it is attitude, sunnies are IMO definitly (sp?) monsters.
 
Welcome to MFK. You'll enjoy this site. Most of the people here have monster fish and they'll give you advice about it.
