First, find out how the store does thing, don't try to change things when you first start (sometimes there are hidden reasons for what they do).

Second, do it their way (they're paying you) if it's a moral conflict state your objection/problem and ask if they would rather you leave (you were looking for a job when you got this one :D ).

Third don't steal... If they see your honest and a hard worker you will probably get more benefits than if you stole the stuff.

Fourth, be on time or early and be consistent.

Fifth, work you way up to ordering so you can get the really cool fish in there.

Sixth, ask them if you can put MFK stickers on the big tanks...then beg Neoprodigy for some (send him pix of bare, ugly tanks).

Seventh, start a hospital tank at home for sick or hurt fish that come in and the store might not want ot care for (hint hint)

Is this a local LFS or a chain?

Oh, and don't worry about ewurm, he's just repeating what his LFS says about him :screwy:.

After being at a chain store for over a year as a college job...lets just say less that 10% know what they are doing, or even take advice to heart. No matter how much people are willing to listen and seem to understand, they have no patience and know what they want. Kids will be your worst nightmare, especially when the customer has just set up a tank. The cycling process is non existent. One piece of advice...figure out a clear, simple, way to describe the nitrogen cycle in a tank. After a year, i'm still working on a way to get it to stick to these idiots brains.

Oh and another thing as has already been said....set up a QT/spare tank now! As big as you can. You will constantly come across beat up, sick, injured in general, fish you feel sorry for, or just those specimens that you can not handle possibly going to some moron who thinks it looks cool regardless or their setup.

Sick fish come in with shipments...aside from whatever you receive from customers.
