Hey Guys Really Important

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My humble advice - leave the tank alone. Let it sort itself out. I've had the same problem several times. Very frustrating, but, doesn't really do any harm. More of a pride thing I suppose, nobody wants to have a cloudy aquarium.
Just leave the tank alone. If you *must* do a water change, do a very very small amount. The cloudiness is bacteria free flowing instead of affixed to your filter/gravel/plants. Every time you do a water change, it just disturbes the balance again and starts all over. I once did a 75% water change cuz I was so frustrated. It was great, for about a day, then...cloudy all over again.
Seriously, leave it alone, be patient. Go out, watch a movie, anything to keep your mind off your tank. Soon enough, it'll clear and you'll be the man again.

Miles you don't like cycle or bio-spira?

Not a big fan.. not while fish are present anyways. I found from working at the LFS that alot of people over-use this stuff, and it can cause problems. I prefer the natural method, and patience.. But also I would advice against feeding feeder fish, as well as having that much waste being put off in that small amount of a tank. I prefer 'Stability' over any, but maybe that's because I am fooled by their fancy ads in the magazines, who knows. Alot of people swear by it, and it works for them...that's great. It especially works good with a heated tank, a ton of filters, and a little household ammonia! :)

Since I have lost my mind and it seems like I'm always setting up new tanks I have come to love both products and have found them to work well.

I use bio-spira if I'm setting up a tank for someone else and I will use what ever one I have on hand if I'm doing one for myself.

If you want to clear the tank This is what I would do......

Move the fish to a large container and then drain all the water out of the tank. Next fill the tank back up with fresh water at the same temp as in the container that your fish are in, add the declor and start the filters. Wait 10 min and then add the proper amount of Bio-Spira.

Now you can add the fish and it's all done. I have had the tanks cloud a little but they look great within 7-10 days and you can do a waterchange after the 11th day..... about 30%

This always works for me.

the best idea is patience. failing that use the micron filter.if you can examine the water under a microscope or magnifying glass.I once had a "cloudy"tank it turned out to be paramecium big enough to make out with the naked eye!!

Wicked. I had a tank that did this. It was frickin annoying, I almost quit fishkeeping because of this. It was too high of a biological load. Too many fish not enough filtration. What kind of filter is it? Is the water cloudy or is there just alot of crap floating around. My tank did it at the 2 month mark. I started my tank with stress zyme and stress coat. I cycled it for 2 days and added about 4-5 fish every couple days until I had about 30 fish. They established pecking order and I was down to 10 fish after 3 weeks. After everything seemed to settle down the water started getting cloudy. Ammonia, did you check it yet?
