santoury, you were right the first time. Being an avid fly fisherman for about 28 years now, I know a damselfly nymph when I see one. It's not a mayfly. Mayflies have gills along their abdomen and are generally fatter. Dragonfly was a good guess too, but they also have a larger abdomen. That's the tell tale sign of a damselfly. The thin abdomen and segmented thorax. Judging by the shells on the top of the thorax in your pic, he's probably only a few days from emerging. They're the cool looking bright blue dragonfly looking bugs you see flying around.

yup definitly a damsel fly i catch em alot in the swamp dont worry its a filter/ vegatation feeder not a carnivore and its NOT a dragonfly larvae dragon fly larva are much larger and stockier damsel flys are more slender and have the feathery appendeges on the back dragon fly larvae lack these appendeges as they squirt water out theyre but as a means of propulsion dragon fly larvae aslo have very large manndables that shoot out and grab food like baby fish (it reminds me of alien)

So I was right all along, with my original thoughts.... At any rate, enjoy it!

Yep, definitely a damselfly larvae. They are smaller than dragon fly larvae but still effective predators on insects and small fish. Feed it to a larger fish.
