It's pretty hard to tell the differance.. They grow to about 24" in the 1st year..so ur gonna need a big tank.. They max out at 4'..

they do not reach 2' in there first year. my largest florida/spotted is around 2-3 years old and is 18". i would say they average around 12-14 inches in there first year. after this period they slow down in growth very much.

Oh sorry, my mistake.. I got confused between gators..and spotted.. Thanks for making the correction Jordan.. but my guy grew to 14" in 5 months..

how big was he when you got him? some will obviously grow faster than others. either way i very highly doubt he will reach 2' in one year. his growth should start slowing very soon.

He was 3" when i got him.. He was in a 10g till he reached about 9" I had been feeding him goat's heart.. I have noticed growth spurts in most of my fish.. My senegal went from 3" to 10" in 2 months..

Hey I really love the spotted gars with nice patterns like the avatar of ESJBond007 but I can't seem to ever see any specimen that is close to that... Is that a spotted gar or another species???

the yellowish spotted on its a crocodile gar, a mix between the alligator and the spotted

and is the only known one in the world, and belongs not to ESJBond007 but to E_Americanus.

I have one and love him. A VERY gnarley fish though.. be prepared for CARNAGE!! Mine grows not too fast... but enough to notice just a little under an inch a month. Gets along great with Clown Knife (simmilar size and growth). and don't get too put off by everyone saying he's too demanding. Main thing to think about is feeding him. I mean wow he is bad or what! Get Him!
