I'm not saying this is true every time but I've noticed RBs seem to be more reluctant to kill tank mates when they are kept as a solitary fish. That mob mentality seems to leave them and they become a lot more tolerant of other fish. Maybe you could try changing decor and scaring him with the net a little and adding the fish and see if that works.
Also that's one solid looking fish. Mine don't look anywhere near as beefy as that. Maybe I'm not feeding them enough.

This fish looks like a Golden Dorado. And he is in with the piranha too? If it is a Dorado, it may also kill you ID if you put it in the tank.
I'm kinda jealous about the Dorado.
