Please don't let anyone here talk you into buying a 4000gph pump for your 55. Just a word of caution. I'm not qualified to propose a pump size, but I know enough that there are a lot of people here that are going to convince you to go WAY overboard on the size of the thing.

I'm sure the question of what type of fish you're keeping is going to come up too, so that would help. IT will depend on bio load sump size, etc. etc. etc. Provide as much info as possible.

Dollar tree is the best I have found for scrubbers (walmart is 2.50 for 3). For the pump, depending on the fish kept, you will want to turn over anywhere from 3 to 10 times your tank volume in an hour. So for a 55 anywhere from 150gph to 550gph. But you have to look at the pumps rating at 6' head, not 1' or 0' head. I'd either use a Mag drive 5 or 7.

Thanks guys! I hopefullly will be building a new stand for my tank so it can be lower. I'll try to do a write up on the stand and filter.

Need to know if it is Salt or freshwater first, need to know to establish your turnover rate. Then I can figure head loss, pipe diameter and a few other factors.

I ran my 150 with a Rena Flow 850. And at 6' I was pushing about 350 gph.. Which isn't what I wanted , but proved to me that what I wanted wasn't what I needed.. :) My water was excellent :) And the pump was quiet ...

All of the pumps for my wet/dry filters turn the tank over 3x per hour. The ammonia/nitrite levels are always 0, the tanks are always clear, and I have some pretty heavy stock levels.
