Is there another pike that would work with a green terror?

Sveni should work out just fine for you, practically any pike would work out, for the most part...johanna would probably be you next best bet. Try to stay saxatilis though as they are GENERALLY less aggressive and stay relatively smaller. If you are having trouble finding sveni, go to PetCo, PetSmart, or even *cringe* Walmart. They normally come in with the shipments of sp. 'venezuela' or sp. 'belly crawlers' as contaminants...;). Pretty easy and common to find if you just look around for a bit. ;). Johanna are even easier to find...;)

a johanna would work? I would have been asking about that one but i thought it was too big.

I missed the part about the 75gal tank...haha...thought you were talkin about a bigger tank. Then definately stick with Saxatilis species like lucius, lepodita, sveni, anthurus and the like...;)

hey peanut what kind of pike is that in your avatar? And are you still pikeless?

Rub it in a little, no wait, a little more!! Yes, ... :( ...I am still friggin pikeless. Tis a rather annoying aspect of my life that will change soon, one way or another. Gonna upgrade my tanks first though, all the way.

Its a female Crenicichla lenticulata...;)

Count me on the Pike team. Theyre the only type of cichlid that I really get excited about. Ive been known to drive 70 miles in search of good pikes. Shop people never know what kind they have, and I still have to refer to yall for ID. So Pnut, are you a seller. I know you know all about them. You checked out and complimented my sveni. Did I get lucky with that buy? Sounds like they are pretty rare. You know it is if you get them from Rapp.

What are some 'common names' for these pikes you mentioned? Because my LFS's never have the scientific names on the tanks...

Um...those are the common names. Go to Google and search for MostlyCichlids.com then look at all the pike pictures. Aim for those pikes...;) that I listed above.

Most pikes are ID'd by scientific name, common names are practically useless for the most part because there is so much confusion and so many different types of pikes. Best bet is to learn your scientific names, and learn what to look for and how to visually ID them...;)

Welcome to the crew!! ;) They definately are unique in many aspects, and the 'rarity' of people keepin them makes them that much more enjoyable. Gettin easily excited about them is something I'm very familiar with. You're off to a great start also!!! Crenicichla sveni is a great pike, often over looked because of its commonness in the trade. Even though they are common, not many people take interest in them. They are top notch pikes though, and definately deserve way more credit.

Shop people never know what kind they have, and I still have to refer to yall for ID.

Its rare that you can rely on a LFS to give you accurate ID's on fish, let alone pikes. Best bet is to learn how to ID them yourself...;)

So Pnut, are you a seller.

I'm not a seller, I have sold some of my pikes before, but I'm not a seller...haha. www.aquabid.com , www.tangledupincichlids are some of the best places to look for pikes...;). Some of the vendors here carry them often as well.

I know you know all about them.

   You can never know all about them, they are so complicated and unique your constantly learning. People are still trying to get the Lugubris group of pikes to breed, tricky little buggas. There are many many people out there who are more versed in the way of Crenicichla than I. I'm still learnin as we go! ;)
