Hello all. I've decided to get back into fishkeeping and found this site. Awesome tanks out there and so many ideas to go with.

I've recently ordered a 125 gal AGA Megaflow tank. Anyone have any experience with this tank?

I also picked up the megaflow kit and was curious do I have to use those bulkheads that came with it? I'm not too crazy about the bulkheads that have a inset on one end for the hose. I'm planning to just run pvc pipes instead.

Another thing, I got a 20 gal High and was planning to turn that into a W/D. I already have the partition set up, and the capacity for the biomedia is about 7.4 gal. I'm planning to use a plastic 3 drawer to hold the filter pads, chemi-pure and various other media.
This drawer will go on top of the tank, with a bulkhead on the top..of course all 3 drawers will be drilled out in the bottom...most likely 9 rows each having 12 holes about 3/8" big.

Tank stand is already built, and plan to work on the canopy this weekend. Stand is made of 2x4's skinned with 3/4" birchwood with two cutouts for dual doors that will be using the recessed hinges.

Planning to house 2 rays, a few parrots...not completely decided on maybe just going with a jardini as the soul occupant.

Any thoughts or ideas will be appreciated.

welcome to mfk sorry no thoughts or ideas

thanks for the welcome. no problem on thoughts/ideas. I was just browsing and see this posting..where he/she re-did their whole basement into a fish room.

Interesting ideas...gotta love it!

Don't mean to rain on your parade but all ray spieces get too big for a 125. Also most people here are going to tell you a 125 is not big enough for a single jar. I am not going to state my opinion on that though because I might get in trouble:nilly: . Good luck with your tank though. Ever tried bichirs? Maybe you should do an odd ball tank. I love those kind.

Yeah I figure peeps will say a 125 is too small for a jar, but I figure it should be good for 2 years until I can get a 180gal which should be suitable for a jar. I can't rush back into it, its been over 15 years that I kept fishes, so I don't the wife will appreciate me spending so much so quick..:WHOA:

I gotta find the pix of my first arowanas, a silver and jar living together in a 55 gal tank.
The jar was about 8 or 9 inches and the silver was about 13 inches. I would've kept them and bought a 180 or 240 g tank back then but I got married..so gave them up to a friend that had a 225 or 240. He kept them for about 5 years until his youngest son thought it was a good idea to pour in a bottle of vinegar into the tank. :irked:

Yea I think that is a great idea. It could easily stay in a 125 for a couple years IMHO. BTW I love jars and I am completly jealous that you are getting that big of a tank AND a jar....I only have a 55 right now.

You could get the Jar and have it for a few years. What are you planning on putting in the sump?

Heh..I know the feeling..had a 55 gal for a long time...until I got my house a decade ago that now I'm deciding to set up a bigger tank.

I figure if I get a 125 now...and let the jar grow out some...and in 2-3 years time I can coax the wife into letting me set up a 180g or possibly bigger tank. Yes it'll be a slow process to set up a fish room hopefully.

You all may think its funny, but if you're married you'll understand. I'm pretty sure most of these MFK'rs here that are married must have had a struggle with the ol' wife about getting those beautfiul tanks set up. ;)

Well, right now I have a 20g High set up as a w/d that will hold approx. 7 gal of bioballs, and some AZOO bio glass. On top of the tank will be a 3 drawer box that will have the bottom all drilled out.
This is what I plan to use in the drawers:
1-bonded filter pads
2-Boyd Chemi-pure or various carbon/purigen/ammo chips
3-50 micron filter pads.

For the meantime I'm going to use just that 1 W/D for the dual megaflow, until I get a second filter, looking at the OC canisters as backup.

Anyone with experience with the Ocean Clear canister filters?

Oh yeah..forgot found a old pix of the 2 aros I had in a 55 gal over 15 years ago.

My girlfrined loves the fact i have a 125, 75, 29, most peoples compaions are down for fish...you gotta turn your wife into that. second i would go with south central american chilids you have more going on...and you really wont have to upgrade, get like green terror jack and some other things. Oh with your 125 make sure your sump is a minium of 1300, mine is 1800, my tank is awesome let me know if you wanna c pics. just pm. odd ball...im not going to protest for while upon me changing my quotes...but i do need to find another that will rythme!
