Hi all! Finally getting back to fishkeeping.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thanks for the encouragement eveyone.

Hmmm..in order to get my wife to enjoy fish keeping..I would have to get her a betta. :WHOA:

If I set up a 20 gal tank with a few bettas and nice aquascaping, wait a year or so, and say to the wife "honey I really think we need to upgrade the tank for the bettas. I know, I'll set up a 180 or 210 gal tank for the big fishies, and give you the 125 gal for your bettas." :naughty:

Dunno about that...but it seems like a plan. :)

Yeah, I'm going to keep the jardini no matter what. Even if he doesn't make a 100% recovery, I don't feel like GOD and putting the bugger to sleep, ya know?

Only thing that still concerns me, even though is eyes have completely cleared up, I have a feeling he may be partially blind. Seems to have a rough time getting the floating krill/plankton/mealworms. I'm pretty sure he has some eyesight because when I move my hand around the front of the tank he responds. Maybe all he sees is the change in light movement. Time will tell I guess.

Yeah, my wife's co-worker didn't care because it wasn't his "pet" but his son's, so when I gave him the 20 bucks, the lil brat comes up and snatched it from his dad.

One thing is for sure, my wife wasn't happy at the time I did what I did, but after 3 weeks and she saw the big difference/improvement of the jardini she has changed her feelings.

Which reminds me, I gotta take a stroll thru some LFS in NYC, Chinatown. I remember my college roomate used to go there and alot and I'd tag along. I gotta admit thats when I got hooked on the arowanas. This one shop had a lot of silvers, blacks and jardinis. I remember one "pond" that this shop had indoors that must've had about 30-40 arowanas (all silvers) ranging from 4" to 30+". It was awesome.

Another shop there used to have asian arowanas for sale only to "certain" people. My friend knew these people well and the guy showed us his personal stock in the basement. I remember that owner telling me if I wanted one it would cost $2000. :WHOA: :screwy:

This was back in the late 70's mind you, and 2K was a lot of money then, especially when in college. Anyway he had this one Super red...man that was one beautiful fish! That one was not for sale tho..

But a few years later I heard that shop closed down and the guy got arrested or something. Damn, I knew I should've scratched off 1 year of college and bought that RTG arowana. :irked:

Anyhow, I would say I'm about 90% down with my stand, just need to do the other set of doors, put in some lighting inside the cabinet, add in 1 or 2 small fans, install a power strip stragetically so it won't get splashed, finish the trim mouldings, well cut to size first..still waiting for the tank to come in so I can see how much I need move the moulding up to cover the black trim of the tank.

Lastly the canopy for the tank. Planning to use a 4ft double shop light, and put in corallife 50/50's and maybe 1 trichomatic. Also installing 2 blue neon lamps the one people put in computer cases as a moonlight effect.

All electrical components will be tied into my touch panel system Using a Crestron home automation/theather system to time the lights to turn on/off at preset times, which will also turn on the "moonlight" when the main light goes off. Pumps will be also controlled by the Crestron system too.

Actually I was thinking of getting a Lutron Grafik Eye system with the dimming ballasts to control the lights but checked the prices :WHOA: for that money I can have half the money for the 180g:grinno:
