Again thanks for all the warm welcomes.. I do have one question I think will be filled better in its sub forum, but I will shoot it out here as well. Last night my wife bought a baby clown knife. I understand its nocturnal and a bottom of the tank kinda guy. Here is my question, Mine swims at the top of the tank in the middle a bit.. I got him a little cave to hide in/ behind he still just hangs out.. The other tank mates dont pay any attention to him nor does he to them. Does this seem normal?
Lastly I feed a half cube of blood worms last night b4 I went to bed and kind of watched (hinding so as to not stress the little guys out any) and noticed my bala's and eel cobbling it up.. The clown knife just hung out up at the top of the tank minding his own business. Within mins my two balas and the dinosaur eel had devoried the half cube and went on there way.. I figure oh well he is the new guy and will go down for scraps later.. Nope I sat there for an hour watching and he didnt budge just kept hanging out at the top of the tank looking down.

Again im sure its nothing to worry about. I do want to note I tested the tanks water yester day and according to lfs its perfect dead on where its supposed to be for the fish I have, sorry I dont understand how all the numbers work (hints why im here and always talking to owner of lfs)

Anyways thanks for the welcomes.

First off, welcome!! Glad your gettin into the hobby, even if it was because of a sad event....:(.

Clown knives are reallly awesome fish, they are predatory, pretty simple to keep, and disease resistant. They also get HUGE..4' actually. It might take it a year or two to reach those sizes, but it will eventually. It'll be an okay tankmate for a few months, but gradually it will start to out grow your other fish, and eventually may even start eating them. The whole sittin at the top of the tank is normal....give it a few days, it will eventually start eating and being more active. Try feeding after all the lights are turned out as they are mostly nocturnal. Rotate your foods, prepared, frozen, flake, and so on. Try to stay away from live foods though as they can carry parasites and other nasties that aren't good. Have faith in your skills....;).

Thanks again for all the props.. Well now my clown has kicked my eel out of his cave and moved in.. The eel will hang out with him for a bit but ends up moveing around.. I need more caves I think lol.

Now I NEVER see my clown.. Though he is almost to big to fit in the eels cave so soon enough he will have to move to his spot I made. However I have yet to see him eat.. When its feeding time (half a cube of blood worms at night) the fish all go nuts and rush out like I rang a bell.. The clown just hides in his cave..

haha..
