i currently have a 120 gallon tank with 9 RBP'S at the momment i have gravel in there but want to change to sand i purchased a bag of play sand today is it possible to use this i really want to put sand in there as i think it looks hell of alot better thnx

I've never used sand but many members here use play sand in their tank for the nature look. you can do some testing to see if the sand will cause any pH level of your water before you put them in. test your water first to get a base reading of pH level then put some play sand in there (clean them just like you were to put them in your tank so can rule out as much uncertainty as possible) and take the pH reading after few days to a week. if no change in pH level than should be safe.

it should be fine but give it a good rinse out first. for my piranha tank i used sand i got from the lake at my cottage which i cant imagine being any better than playsand and i gave it a good rinse out and (crosses fingers) no problems yet

i have heard of playsand clouding water after being put in so give it a real good rinse first

yea that should be fine. just add some driftwoods or large rocks so it has something to suck on instead just the glass

Be careful when removing the gravel. I did that one time and my ammonia level spiked due to the waste that settled on the bottom of the tank and I almost killed my RBP

how would u addvise to remove it then empty my tank ? then remove it i really dnt wanna f**k this up lol id rather stick to the gravel if its going to kill them thnx!

My RBP's made it but got eye pop and it was weeks before the started to look good. I was very good about water changes and cleaning the gravel. It was a unexpected surprise when it happened. It was a learning lesson for me. If you really want the sand then the safe bet is to transfer them empty most of the water and take the gravel out.
That is a lot of work!!!!
