Well I'll let you know how the beta does. Which is not a good mix? The Melawi/Palmas tank or the Beta Gourami tank? and why? Thanks in advance.
 
Both (btw are these Palmas Complex or just sens sold to you as Palmas)
Anabantoids especially Bettas don't like other anabantoids in their space. If you believe the moonlight to be the problem then if it killed a cichlid what prevents it from killing the betta? But to each is own the answer to this thread is the bichirs killed it. My bichirs have killed things they previously were hunky-dorie with.

I figure they are sens as most albinos are sens right? I thought they would only kill something of edible size?

About the Betta we'll see what happens.
