Hello,
First of i would like to say Iv'e been in the saltwater hobby fo two years now and have gained quit some experience. i have kept an octopus, fish, shrimp, crabs and an anemone. Curently I have a 30 gallon saltwater and a 90 gallon salt water. id go into elaborate detail but i might bore you to death. Id like to ask what i need to raise an stigray. water quality, tank size, wich speciese to buy all of it. if ther is a tutorial or something that i can read that would be perfect.

THANKS IN ADVANCE,

Welcome to MFK! I'm sure someone will help you with some advice, but I just wanted to welcome you.

First off welcome to MFK. Read the stickys at the top of the stingray forum, they should give you some info. Also if you want fresh water rays you should get the book Freshwater Stingrays by Dr. Richard Ross.

wow! that was quick. my old form us to take days for response. thank you Ill go look at thoughs

Not here. Youll get answers in minutes. :) Welcome to MFK. Like what Honda just wrote. We highly recommend reading this great primer for FW stingrays by Dr. Ross
since it is very informative and it is very cheap ( can be bought for less than 10$).

Stingrays are wonderful animals that need perfect water quality and they need specialized care unlike other freshwater fish. A big surface area and a very powerful filtration system combined with large frequent water changes is a must.

Reading a great introductory book for rays would be a good first step .After reading, ask us anything here and we will be more than happy to answer your questions.

Thanks ill do some googling and order that book. Since my 90 gallon is a tall ill probably look into another tank. i think i can make room inmy fishtank covered room.
Oh ya and ddontr worry about me im not a veary impulsive buyer i will only order an ray if i truly feel im ready

awesome .. .with rays, the wider the tank , the better. In all honesty , i dont think you can find a custom tank that will be "too wide" for a fw stingray. They all grow up to 15 inches in diameter and upwards .

Let me know if you want to look up the book on the web, i can give you links.

Thanks,
you should see me search to web.. ever since the octopus shortage a few months ago ive gotten so good at googling. One question is it possable to get a saltwater stingray or is it better to get a freshwater one?
