I'm new and have been looking for some info on how I can make my son's RES turtle happy and heathy.

I've found a lot so far on just the two searches I've done.:headbang2
like the 55 I have it in might not be big enough.
but I am wondering how to tell if it's a male or female?
and what the best food for it?

Welcome to the forum
Well done on researching!

Just from looking at it I can tell you its a girl:D Its pretty obvious since it has a small tail and small front finger nails. Male sliders have long finger nails wich they use to rub in the females face during cortship and a long thick tail. Males are also generaly smaller than females. Its quite easy to tell when they are mature;) As for food since you have there a already big girl (but wich is still capable of growing a bit more) the best diet for her must be made of about 60% vegetable matter(mustard greens, water cress, collard greens, turnip greens, kale ,pesticide free dandilions, chycory greens, etc) and 40% of high quality turtle pellets, like reptomin, mazuri (turt and tortoise food) and zoomed turt food, as well ciclid and koi pellets, wholle fish like small trout, minows, shrimp, crickets, earthworms, superworms, seafood, etc. Give her food every other day and give preference to dark leafy vegetables wich are really important. Even if she doesant eat them dont fill her with a animal food diet only wich will shorten her life. Avoid things like fatty meats, hamburgers, pizza, processed foods, etc:grinno: She´s quite a looker, how long do you have her and what is her story:popcorn:
