Ahh, the background... that is an entire post in itself. A big project by my standards but certainly nothing at all compared to people building 1000 G concrete display tanks. Now that is impressive.

It is a DIY thing I prefrabricated out of styrofoam and covred it with concrete. Here are the early stages of development.

Styrofoam cut and ready to be covered in concrete:

Testing the concrete paint color:

First coat of concrete:

Finished job, concrete back ground was cut into three pieces and had to be fit into the tank like a puzzle.

Curing the concrete and the driftwood, I later got rid of the drift wood, just didn't look good with the back ground:

I have got to do that myself!! you have inspired me that is the way to go...:nilly:

There are many designs to create. Here are some links you can check to get your creative juices flowing:

there are many others, google up "styrofoam tank back grounds"

One thing to keep in mind that these backgrounds do take up space in your tank and they're permanent. I saw one thread where someone used magnet inserts to keep the back ground in place along with gorrilla clips and it worked.

Love that back ground, post it in the DIY as soo as you can. Beautiful fish, what kind of filtering system ya runnin'.

Oh and welcome, MFK is by far the best.

Thanks all again for the kind word..I'll post this in DIY.

For filtration, I am running two Fluval 404s, one on each side of the tank, for surface agitation I have two power heads and two airstones. I like redundancy. My airstones are run by a hurricane pump with two air outlets. If I lose power the pump will continue to run for 14 hrs, when the nickel batteries wear down I can put in D batteries.
