I keep many North American native, I cannot imagine most Euro natives being much different. There is a coldwater fish section on this site so when you setup your tanks make sure you stop by there and share with the others what you have learned. I'm sure I am not the only one interested.

You are so lucky.

I really admire the North American Natives, but they are not available here in Germany even whole Europe I guess.

I think I read that most of the Darters for example are under protection, is that right?

They are so great:

As colorfull as tropicals or even more.

Being a Newbie I am still struggeling through this large Board, but as it seems there are still more interests than just huge fishes, so I can already share my experiences as well.

Of course I will keep you all informed as it is so friendly and nice being here.

Yes, I have heard that NA natives are not commonly sold over there. Probably a good thing because most could survive in your waters. I'm sure there are some over there in the wild already.

Actually, not really. Unless they are endangered many are mearly regarded as baitfish and get no special protection. They are great fish, I have trouble keeping them but for the limited time I have they are lots of fun. I gotta keep trying with them.

Yes, it is a very diverse forum. A lot of members keep smaller fish and even goldfish (I keep goldfish). There really is no limit.

You can also find tropicals here in Germany although the climate does not match.

The wintertime got much smoother and all kind of warmwater fishes swim in rivers fed by cooling-effluents of power plants havin about 15°C in the winter.

Really weird sometimes having read about 10inch Piranhas or huge and dangerous snapping turtles...

But it is fun to catch really big and healthy Guppies for example.

:)

There are a lot of non-native tropicals here, and some European fishes as well. I live in NY and we have wild goldfish, common carp, ruffe, brown trout and round gobies. Places like Florida have tons of tropicals. I don't live in Florida but I bet it's fun to catch cichlids, I would still rather them not be there though.
