q.c.
is it true that pleco eat the dirt of the fishes?? and poop of the fishes, they just eat garbage?? just leave them alone with a company tank and they will survive.

... im sure someone with more knowledge of all plecos will chime in but no everything uve said isnt true. A plecostomus's diet needs to be varied and supplemented. While they will scavenge they would much more like fresh veggies and for some species fresh meat. They will graze on algae but most are not very good algae eaters. Nothing will eat your fish's poop.

Please read the stickies (such as the dietry sticky) and use the search before asking such questions. A pleco needs to be fed just how you'd feed other fish... not by it living on nothing. They certainly don't consume other fishes waste, and they produce more than most fish. What foods that should be used is also in the sticky- pleco dietry thread! Basically you have the common misconception associated with these types of fish, they are not tank clean up crew.

algae and other things

you can buy algae wafers at any lfs

Only a small handful actually eat algae as a primary staple. The vast majority are omnivorous, and several are even carnivorous, such as the zebra pleco.
