About 25% of mine hide most of the day. The slightly larger number of loaches will bring the others out more often during the day. I also found a mix of size is great as well, the smaller ones don’t care for hiding and will encourage the others to join in the school.
In my tank you’ll always see the smaller loaches swim off and all the others in tow.
Hope this helps.
To be honest the tank has gone through some trials and tribulations. We lost power for a week during the hurricane earlier this year and lost 3 of the 5 loaches. The remaining 2 came out and about immediately after we got everything back up and running. Bitter sweet? So currently the 180 tank has the 5 Bala sharks, 5 EB Acaras, 25 Corydoras, 6 tiger barbs, and the 2 Clown loaches.
