High Ammonia NEED HELP

the sand is 1" when spread out evenly in the tank and i do try to move it around often. My ph is usally low should i try to up it? Can a low ph prevnent growth of benificial bacteria ? or crash

Depending on how low it is yes. If your tank cycled fine at 6ph and it is steady I wouldn't mess with it. My main concern was that it was lower than 6 and the water changes you where doing might be bringing it back towards 7.

If your ph is always steady at 6 you might want to do a good search of the tank and all filters for something that could be rotting and throwing off a lot of ammonia. Like a large piece of food or dead fish in a decoration or filter

Johno - I was thinking it could be a dead fish that hadn't been discovered.

If you dont treat your water before you put it in the tank, the small amounts of chlorine can kill off your benificial bacteria, or so im told
