You’re discus May lay eggs in a ph of 8 but the eggs won’t get fertilized. Has to be in the upper 6’s. Not possible in they high of ph
It is possible, and I've done it. My tap hovers right around 8. My discus have produced fry many times. You’re discus May lay eggs in a ph of 8 but the eggs won’t get fertilized. Has to be in the upper 6’s. Not possible in they high of ph
Than you somehow must have really low gh and kh thanIt is possible, and I've done it. My tap hovers right around 8. My discus have produced fry many times.
I did have low hatch rates. An average batch was around 15 or 20Eggs will be fertilized, the hatch rate will simply be low, if at all. Our local water is a pH of 8.0-8.2, and a local discus keeper successfully kept discus in these waters for approx 40 yrs (before his passing a few yrs ago). The only time that he tweaked the water parameters, was when he was breeding. He raised his juveniles, and kept his non breeding discus, at pH 8.0+ year round. He also purchased some of his Stendker strains from Hans, as juveniles. Including the fish shown below. In his latter years of discus keeping he also mostly fed pellets, with only the occasional feeding of bloodworms.

no man maybe notGreetings!
First off, I'm well aware discus are naturally from soft and acidic water, but I'm also well aware plenty of people have healthy discus growing in alkaline water.
My reality is my water is about pH 8.5 out of the tap, and I can't do RO because I'm on an old septic system and I don't even like the water use I have now.
So my question is this - do any high end discus sellers (whether breed or import) keep their fish in high pH water? I'd like to buy from one of them, if they exist.
