will it matter that my Ph is 8.0? ooh ya and i have less than 25 ppm of nitrites but after i condition it they are gone. but anyway will a high ph matter?
It depends on the fish you stock. If your water right from your tap, is at that level, it will be hard to keep fighting it to drop it to the level that some fish will perfer. I too have high pH and when I first started, I was wondering why all of the fish that I was buying were losing their color. pH was the answer. Then I tried tons of chemicals to try to keep it lower. $$$$$$$
I now have changed my 125g tropical community to an African chiclid tank and my fish are exploding with color.
why fight it? There are lots of great fish out there that fit in many water perameters. If you have a weird tap water situation: do your homework and enjoy!
From what I have read, as long as your Ph is constant and not at an extreme you should be fine as long as your rays were acclimated properly. Do not try to adjust it as it will only be more harm then good!
As long as you acclimate them properly the rays will be fine. Like JD7 said don't be tempted to try to lower the ph as it can cause more harm than good. A stable ph is more important for rays. Besides as the rays grow you will probably find that you need to add things to buffer the ph to stop it dropping from the high bio load they create
