sounds like im just in a world of hurt.

in the tank im above 8.5 not sure how much above either...
im using the outside faucet...
water from my kitchen sink is 7.4
water from the fridge is below 6.0 lol

Black water extract will lower your pH pretty good.

Anyone else use the black water method? Would it work if I started doing small water changes from the kitchen till the ph was 7.4? Or would this not work?

I like using concentrated hydrochloric acid (HCl). About 3ml will drop a 100 gallon tank from 8.3 to 6.3

doing water changes with distilled water helps, or water from a reverse osmosis, it is far easier to raise your ph than to lower it

you might want to buffer the water in your tank if you are going to be fiddling with pH. Also extremely hard water is going to be a pain to change the pH so I would not even recommend it. I'd just go with fish that can cope with your faucet pH if this is the case.
