Finally got my big tanks set up in new house and new area. We have well water. PH is running 7.8 -8.0. Should I just acclimate rays to that or try and get it down. What do you guys use to lower it? Had town well water before I moved and it was always around 7.0 (neutral). Going to be hard to lower it all the time with 50-60 percent water changes.
Thanks Jim

I personally would slowly acclimate them to the 7.8 PH rather than use chemicals. A R/O system would be my choice or Tannins. I have the same range of PH but I use leaf litter in my aquarium's with fish that prefer soft water. Hopefully members that's experienced with Freshwater Rays will chime in.

Like you mentioned it is better to keep them at the source water ph rather than having swings every time you do a wc. My tap water comes out at 7.8-8.2 depending on time of year. I do between 75-150% each week and all is well in my tanks.

Thanks guys. Yeah my Ph is runnning about 8. Rays in temp pool seem okay. They just tend not to eat real good for a couple of days after water changes.

Whats your hardness of the water? So the ph dont drop in between wc?:)

IS that 150 TDS? If so that's not bad at all. I think I'm usually around 350 from my tap.

Using RO here to bring numbers down. I just mix them. IF the water is really hard nothing else will bring it down.

My PH has been 8.2-8.4 out tap for the 14 yrs Ive been at this house. TDS is right at 365 out of tap. Made up my mind back when I set up at this place I was going to try and manipulate those numbers. My tanks run the same.
