high quality Tiger Oscars

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
For some reason I wanted to do Oscars again. I haven't had one since I was a kid. I have a couple good LFS arround me so I ventured out and was shocked that I couldn't find a decent Tiger. Lots of albinos. A couple reds but no tigers?!!? The quality and color were poor. But, on my last stop this store had a lot. None really good but I did find two that had great color patterns so I picked them up and hopefully by a good diet get their color a little more vivid.

Two weeks ago I stopped in at the lfs, saw one that was in with big africans....needless to say he was beat up real bad, almost no fins left:(, but I couldn't help but bring him home and try to save him, he is a red...looked like a dying salmon at the time, but his fins are growing back great, and I think he's gonna be real nice when he is finished healing. he is REAL friendly!
I have always bought oscars for their personality, there is no way I could pass one up at the lfs just because of colouring, but that's my opinion.

i have a bunch of fish stores around me but my local walmart is the best for buying oscars they all look awsome especially the tigers

Sometimes its all about diet. When I bought my baby tiger oscar at 2 inches he had no red at all, just a black body and brown stripes where the red was supposed to be. He stayed like that for about 4 months on a diet of flakes and crickets. Then I got Hikari Cichlid Gold and after 1 month his red was comming out. A few months later the red was very solid, bright and metalic. With that said, I recommend getting a fish with good patterns which means it has potential. Then from there, you can grow it up to be the beauty you've always wanted.
