Hello All,
Was wondering if someone here can give some advice on a High Shine Silver I purchased yesterday. At the store he was a pale silver in color, very faint coloration on the tips of his fins. He was so bright it was almost blinding! A few hours after acclimating he ate and swam about nicely, and I noticed his colored darkened a bit. He is still brighter than the average silver aro, just not as bright. My water params are perfect. The temp in the aquarium is 82 degrees. I noticed in the store the aquarium decor was light in color. My tank has dark coloration, substrate is black and dark brown, there is wood and plants as well. Could this be a factor as to why he darkened?

Has this happened to anyone with a high shine? is there a specific light I can use or something that I can use to help get the lighter color?

bcarlos,
Thanks so much. He is currently in a 55 and there really is no backgrouns but my wall which is a dark color. This month he will be transferred into a 150 which will have a 3d rock background which is in a brown/tan color, but the substrate will be black so don't think he'll get much lighter. :(

bcarlos is right for the most part. The aro you bought probably got the white tank treatment. If you keep a silver, or any other arowana, in a pure white tank for long, they turn whiter and shinnier. A couple hours in a dark tank is all it takes to notice some difference. If it changes colour this fast, you may not have a high shine. If you want the effect again, swap out your tank backgrounds to something white and light up your tank brightly.

Thank u GShock!
He is brighter than most silvers in a dark evironment anyway. And the 150 he is moving to much money was invested in working on that tank so there is no chance of me swapping the black sand and background to a lighter decor theme! Love him to bits tho he is quite a character!

I don't think it is a High Shine if it got darker. ;) Pictures would help alot, the pale silver color was probably from the light back/bottom and brightness could have been the lighting.
Not my High Shine, but mines looked similar to this at around 6", but less orange/red on the fins(My HS was in a dark tank too)
