Thanks everybody!
It helps to go to the place where the biggest smallmouth in the world was caught.
I fished the entire week about twelve hours a day for that fish and it was all worth it. I went with some other men and the average sized smallmouth was 19-20 inches.
One guy caught three 20 inchers, but i caught the only one over 20 1/2" inches. GO TO DALE HOLLOW LAKE AND FISH SHINERS ON THE BOTTOM AND CATCH HUGE FISH!

they're almost cute but because of their small size those tiny fin barbs will get you and man they suck.

Tell me about it...one got me yesterday with TWO spines, between my thumb and index finger and between my index finger and middle finger. There was blood everywhere and my hand is still swollen!

i just hate how the little ones always get me with the serations on the backside, but not the spines themself...the one i got last night was 15" and it tore my finger up with those steak knives they got...

One of my best channels yet....hooked into this one at about 2 am. Gotta love night fishing! Tipped the scale at about 12 lbs, measured about 28 inches.

i'd reather be stung then cut by the steak knives personaly...stings only last for an hour or so at most for me...here it is a few days later and my cut still feels like a cardboard cut...

I wish I could effin catch gar! Haha, the biggest recently has been a 38" 30 lbs. carp out of the Susquehanna river.

When I fish for gar its usually by site, I use a small hook, no sinker, 10-14lb test and a small piece of meat such as bluegill. Cover the entire hook so the gar isnt munching on a section with no hook. Let him run with it for a few, if you can see him and the bait is in the corner of his mouth or gone, set hook. When I had my gars in a tank I watched how they ate, its just like a gator. They have the food at the tip and then they sort of raise their jaws and move their head forward at the same time slowly making its way to the mouth. If you can see it, wait about 30 seconds or so, lots of trial and error, sometimes you will get them, sometimes you wont.
