Open your eyes a little wider LP, and you'll find the world is more than responsible croc keepers going after their next exotic cat responsibly. Too many idiots in the wide world.

If the gov could create a good permit process and leave it alone that would be great. But once the gov has thier hand in things, how long untill groups like PETA start whispering in the gov ear? Hey, they dont need exotic HOTs, they can keep NA hots.
Fact is gov can NEVER leave well enough alone. Thus my stance on permits. We have 0 permits here in PA and we do quite well.
i second this. the government should leave well enough alone, as LP said, once they start they won't stop. the breeders need to be more responsible about who they sell to.kittyhazelton;4759709; said:Maybe the pressure should be put on the SELLERS for specific permits/licensing for certain species, thus putting more pressure on them to screen out potential bad owners instead of selling an alligator to the first kid with $50 since it'd make them appear more responsible for where their animals end up to begin with?
I mean with the amount of money and effort I put into all my licensing, it certainly makes me more motivated to be careful where I send animals to so that it doesn't turn around and project me in a negative light.
Just a thought.

kittyhazelton;4761679; said:And having to pay $500 or so for an alligator would be a bad thing? This coming from the guy who wants to buy a Serval?
I don't think these animals should be so cheap and easily available to the public. If a breeder were required to assure that the animal is going to a suitable home (including keeping records on where those creatures are transferred to) in the event of an incident.
No it WOULDN'T hurt the people who can/want to keep them RESPONSIBLY

1) what does my desire to own an african serval have to do with anything??? This statement is random and really has no place within this conversation.
I think she used the serval example as a price comparison.Etunes;4765092; said:I think she was stating that just like a gator or any other dangerous critter african servals can be dangerous too and that just like the gator you dont want a family walking in the pet store planning to buy a cat and walking out with a serval. Can turn out to be a bad situation.
